Tips For A Successful Trip To The Vet

I've always had pets, and that means I'm well-accustomed to taking small animals to the vet for check-ups and treatment. Taking your pet to the vet can be stressful and you may not always feel clear about the vet's diagnosis or care advice they provide. I've found over the years that there are ways you can make a trip to the vet more pleasant for you and your pet, and I started this blog to share the tips I've picked up from taking my own animals to the vet. I post on a variety of topics, such as ways to calm a nervous dog, communicating effectively with your vet and keeping your own records when you have a pet with a chronic illness. I hope you find my blog useful.

What to Do if Your Cat Eats a Poisoned Mouse

While some cats like to catch prey and then present it to you as a gift, others will eat what they catch. If your cat occasionally catches rodents and birds and then wolfs them down, then you may not be too surprised if it wanders into the house with a mouse in its mouth that it then starts to eat. However, if you know that one of your neighbours has recently put down poison bait in their home to get rid of a mouse infestation, then you'll worry that your cat has got hold of a baited mouse. 3 Things to Remember When Choosing a Vet Emergency Service

Your animals are a part of your family. They live with you and share your life. They need to be protected and cared for just like the rest of the family. When you get sick, you go to the doctor or hospital. What about when your pet falls ill? They too need proper medical care. Here are a few recommendations when looking for the best vet emergency service for your pet. Read More

Cat Adoption: How to Prepare Your Home

If you want a new cat, you may be considering adopting an animal. Adoption is a great way of giving a cat a new start in life. Many cats which are up for adoption have been abandoned or have been so unwell that their owners could no longer care for them. Because adopted cats are likely to have suffered some trauma in the past, it is vital that you take steps to make sure they settle into their new home. Read More

A Shocking Act of Cruelty: When a Cat Is Shot with an Air Rifle

The idea of deliberately inflicting cruelty upon an animal is something that would be unthinkable to most people. And yet, as distressing as the very idea might be, it does happen. Some acts of cruelty can almost seem to be opportunistic -- as though the abuser encountered the animal by chance and made a spur of the moment decision with awful consequences for the poor animal. Cats have a tendency to wander, and while they might not necessarily be welcome in all the backyards of your neighbourhood, there is no justification for brutal violence. Read More

Can You Train a Reluctant Cat to Like Its Carrier?

Even routine visits to the vet are a nightmare if your cat refuses to go in its carrier. Your cat may run away, hide or even fight you every time you try to load it in. You may end up covered in scratches with a stressed and angry pet that then erupts when it's released in the vet's clinic. This is a problem that won't necessarily fix itself. You may, however, make things easier by encouraging your cat to like the carrier a little better. Read More
